Why cards matter to the workflow

Gamma organizes content in cards and supports creating from prompts or existing material. [1] That can be useful while the story is still taking shape: an outline can become a sequence of ideas before the author commits to every visual detail.

For a proposal, each card should have a specific job: establish the problem, explain the approach or support a decision. Letting the tool fill an outline without a clear argument can produce a polished sequence that says little. The author still needs to decide which facts matter and what the audience should understand after each section.

Importing a deck does not preserve its template

Gamma's official import guide explicitly says PowerPoint master layouts, custom template designs and background images are not preserved. It distinguishes bringing in text from using AI to transform or restyle content. [2]

This is a material buying distinction. If a client supplies a mandatory deck template, importing it should not be treated as a faithful conversion. For a new concept, that flexibility may be acceptable. For a template-constrained deliverable, retain the original and test a difficult slide before committing. Choose the final format early

Choose the final destination before doing detailed layout work. If the recipient needs to revise a table, test that table's editability. If the recipient needs a fixed document, inspect the PDF at actual page size. If a live link is appropriate, check the reader experience on a small screen. Branding and collaboration need a delivery check

Gamma's public offering includes themes and collaboration. [1] Those features address how a team works together, but the recipient's needs still determine the final check. A colleague may be comfortable commenting on a link while a client expects an editable file using an internal font and template.

Agree on who owns the final version and where corrections are made. Editing a downloaded file and a live version independently can create two conflicting sources. For recurring client work, establish a simple handoff convention that names the approved format and date. That operating choice matters even when the tool makes sharing easy.

When Gamma fits better than a traditional slide workflow

Gamma is most relevant when the team is building a fresh explanation and can use its own layout system. A conventional slide editor remains a useful baseline when exact template fidelity and detailed object positioning are central. This is a distinction of requirements, not a claim of universal superiority.

If the next deliverable is a reusable training video, a presenter tool such as HeyGen addresses another stage of the process; it does not replace the need for a coherent deck. Decide first whether the audience needs to read, watch a live presentation or consume a narrated video. That choice prevents buying an attractive tool for the wrong output.

Provide the audience, the decision required, approved source material and a proposed narrative. Include a table of figures that must not be changed. A tightly prescribed corporate slide master can make export fidelity the deciding issue. For that situation, evaluate the actual handoff before committing to an annual plan. Do not treat the number of generated slides as the measure of a successful presentation.
